This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Dictyota ciliolata Sonder ex Kützing.

Type locality: "Tangion Datu" (Cape Datu), boundary between Sarawak, Malaysia and West Kalimantan, Indonesia; (Silva & al. 1996: 595) Type: Museo Civico, Venezia?; Notes: De Clerck (2003) gives the following information: Holotype FI s.n. He notes that this is a species based on an old and eroded specimen of D. ciliolata Sonder ex Kützing.
