The type species (holotype) of the genus Batrachospermum is Batrachospermum gelatinosum (Linnaeus) De Candolle.
Status of name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Kumanoa capensis (Starmach ex Necchi & Kumano) Necchi & Vis
Type locality: Município of Areia Branca, Itabaiana Mountains, Serigipe State, Brazil (Necchi & Kumano 1984: 349). Holotype: E.C. Oliveira Filho; 5 December 1974; Epilithic in a mountain rivulet associated with Batrochospermum cayennense Montagne. SP 187102 (Necchi & Kumano 1984: 349).
