The type species (holotype) of the genus Chroomonas is Chroomonas nordstedtii Hansgirg.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Rhodomonas falcata D.R.A.Hill & R.Wetherbee.

Type locality: UK: Wales: Aberystwyth, isolated from seashore rock pools; (Butcher 1967: 32) Notes: Type not designated by Butcher (ICBN, Art. 37). Hill & Wetherbee (1989) designated Butcher, pl. IV: fig. 6 as lectotype.

Adjective (Latin), shaped like a sickle.
