Caulacanthus okamurae Yamada 1933: 278 (as 'okamurai' )

The type species (lectotype) of the genus Caulacanthus is Caulacanthus ustulatus (Mertens ex Turner) Kützing.
Status of name
This name is of an entity that is currently accepted taxonomically.
Named for Kintaro Okamura (1867-1935), Japanese phycologist.
No synonyms are currently included in AlgaeBase.
This species has been introduced into the Mediterranean (Verlaque et al. 2015: 115), probably by shipping, being first found at Marseille, France in 2004. Populations in NE Atlantic (Britain and the Channel coast of France) are probably also introduced; it has spread rapidly in Kent in SE England (Tittley 2016). - (4 Nov 2015) - M.D. Guiry
