Harmful species.Faust & Gulledge (2002: 54) notes this species is known to be responsible for a number of major fish and shellfish kills. It is a strong ichthyotoxic dinoflagellate species: it may represent a significant estuarine microbial predator. Harmful species (Lassus et al. 2017).
