The type species (holotype) of the genus Stauronella is Stauronella constricta (Ehrenberg) Mereschkowsky.

This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Craspedostauros indubitabilis (Lange-Bertalot & S.I.Genkal) E.J.Cox.
