Type locality: Franz Josef Land (74º48'4"N, 54º52'8"E) (Hasle, Medlin & Syvertsen 1994: 249). Lectotype: W Grunow slide 2550 c, Franz Josef Land No. 2. 2/8 872. 431/67 (Hindák 1996: 249).

Adjective (Latin), belonging to the extreme north, northern (Stearn 1973).
