The type species (lectotype) of the genus Docidium is Docidium baculum Brébisson ex Ralfs.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Pleurotaenium clavatum (Ralfs) De Bary.

Taxonomic note
According to Kouwets (1999: 69) 'This taxon most probably is based on an anomalous cell and often classified as a forma in Pleurotaenium trabecula, or even considered synonymous with the nominal form of last mentioned species (see Ruzicka, 1977)'. Kouwets places it under the synonymy of Pleurotaenium clavatum. - (05 June 2009)
