Taxonomic note
See Bendif et al. (2014: 146) for discussion on relationship between Emiliania huxleyi and Gephyrocapsa oceanica. They support the proposal of Reinhard (1972) to transfer E. huxleyi into the genus Gephyrocapsa and note that Kamptner (1956) had indicated a high degree of homology of the structure of coccolith elements between the two species. Results presented in a subsequent publication by Bendif & Young (2014) support the above conclusion. - (21 January 2015) - G.M. Guiry
