The type species (holotype) of the genus Trebouxia is Trebouxia arboricola Puymaly.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Asterochloris magnus (Archibald) Skaloud & Peksa.

Lectotype = illustration "Pilophorus acicularis" A-H inserted between pp. 59 in Ahmadjian (1959) (as T. lambii sp.nov.): Asterochloris magna strain UTEX 902 (cryopreserved) in Culture Collection of Algae at Charles Univ., Prague (epitype) (Skaloud & Peksa 2010: 45) Notes: Source: Indiana Culture Collection No. 67, 902. Isolator: Beijernick isolated from Cladonia sp. as Chlorococcum sociabile (67); Ahmadjian from Pilophorus acicularis as Trebouxia lambi (nomen nudum) (902).
