This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Asterochloris magnus (Archibald) Skaloud & Peksa.

Isolator: Beijernick isolated from Cladonia sp. as Chlorococcum sociabile (67); Ahmadjian from Pilophorus acicularis as Trebouxia lambi (nomen nudum) (902).
