Published in: Burman, N.L. (1768). Flora indica: cui accedit series zoophytorum indicorum, nec non prodromus florae capensis. pp. [i-vii], -241 [242 = Elenchus tabularum][1-17],  1*, 2-28, 25 [bis]-28 [bis], pls 1-21, 21*, 22-67. Lugduni Batavorum [Leiden], Amstelaedami [Amsterdam]: apud Cornelium Haek, apud Johannem Schreuderum.
Type locality: Java (Silva & al. 1996: 909).

Silva, Basson & Moe (1996) write: "The identity of this species is unknown. The type, if extant, would be at Genève (G). Merrill (1921: 332%u2013333) suggested that it might be representative of the freshwater genus Chara.
