Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Noctiluca scintillans (Macartney) Kofoid & Swezy.
Type locality: Herne Bay, Kent, England; (Macartney 1810: 264) Notes: "I first met with these animals in the month of October 1804, at Herne Bay, a small watering place upon the northern coast of Kent."
This is a marine species.
