The type species (holotype) of the genus Asteromphalus is Asteromphalus darwinii Ehrenberg.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Asteromphalus heptactis (Brébisson) Ralfs.
Origin of Species Name
Adjective (Latin), reticulate, netted, marked with a network (Stearn 1973).
