The type species (holotype) of the genus Diplopsalis is Diplopsalis lenticula Bergh.

This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Kolkwitziella acuta (Apstein) Elbrächter.

Origin of Species Name
Adjective A (Latin), acute, pointed; i.e. narrowing gradually and making an angle of less than 90° (Stearn 1973).
