Type Species
The type species (lectotype) of the genus Salpingoeca is Salpingoeca gracilis H.J.Clark.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Bicosta minor (N.Reynolds) Leadbeater.

Type locality: Barents Sea (71º49'N, 24º12'E); (Reynolds 1976: 13) Holotype: Fig. 11: 29 June 1973; sea temperature 7ºC; (Reynolds 1976: 13)

Origin of Species Name
Adjective (Latin), smaller, inferior, lesser (Stearn 1973).
