Type Species
The type species (lectotype) of the genus Arthrodesmus is Arthrodesmus convergens Ehrenberg ex Ralfs.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Desmodesmus serratus (Corda) S.S.An, Friedl & E.Hegewald.
Type Information
Type locality: Czech Republic: Prague; (Index Nominum Algarum) Lectotype: Description of Corda (1939) only (exclusion of the illustration of Corda (1839: pl. 4, fig. 35): (Fawley et al. 2011: 35) Notes: According to Index Nominum Algarum, the lectotypification by Fawley et al. (2011: 35) is unacceptable since it excludes the sole typifiable element, the illustration.
Origin of Species Name
Adjective (Latin), serrated, saw-edged with teeth pointing forwards (Stearn 1973).
