Status of name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Nitzschia fonticola (Grunow) Grunow
Type locality: Bruxelles (Delogne): eaux douces Lectotype: BM 26835 (Trobajo et al 2006: 1357). Notes: Type locality and habitat (Silva: Index Nominum Algarum). Trobajo et al. (2006: 1357) agree with Krammer and Lange-Bertalot (1988) that the lectotype should be chosen from among Neuchâtel slides. However, because of the poor quality of Cleve & Moller # 174, they designate slide BM 26835 (in the Natural History Museum, London) of Van Heurck #524 as the lectotype preparation.
