Type locality: "in mare Corsicam" (Roth 1797: 183). Neotype: Miramare, Italy; Hauck; L 937.264.23 (Hoek 1963: 208). Notes: Womersley (1984: 194) gives the following data: Type from the Mediterranean; lost. Neotype fromTrieste , Adriatic Sea, in L, 937, 264...23 (see van den Hoek 1963: 208).

Adjective (Latin), producing offsets, bearing progeny as offshoots (Stearn 1973).
