Type locality: Port Phillip Heads, Victoria (Womersley 2003: 52). Holotype: Wilson; 29 December 1891; LD, Herb. Agardh 31575 (Womersley 2003: 52). Notes: Womersley (2003: 52) notes that there are isotypes in MEL (10057) and BM.

Appears to be a deep water species (usually 20-35 m), possibly with strong water movement (Womersley 2003: 54).
