Type species
The type species (holotype) of the genus Chantransia is Chantransia nigricans De Candolle.

This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Acrochaetium tenuissimum (Collins) Papenfuss

Type locality: San Pedro, California, U.S.A. (Silva & al. 1996: 101). Type: FH (Woelkerling 1971: 52). Notes: Material from the type collection is distributed in Phycotheca Boreali Americana, No. 741 (Woelkerling, 1971: 52). Collector: Miss S.P. Monks, Nov. 1898 (INA). Growing on Phyllospadix on the flats at the entrance to the harbor (Drew, 1928).
