The type species (type conserved) of the genus Chlamydomonas is Chlamydomonas reinhardtii P.A.Dangeard.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Ixipapillifera deasonii (H.Ettl) T.Nakada.

Type locality: Carrzo Sands formation 5.1 miles east of McMahan, Caldwell Count[r?]y, Texas, USA; (Nakada et al. 2016: 297) Holotype: Deason and Bold (1960), figs 8, 9, 80, 132 (based on C-2-4 culture strain): soil collected from under Quercus marilandica; (Nakada et al. 2016: 297)
