Type species
The type species (holotype) of the genus Antithamnion is Antithamnion cruciatum (C.Agardh) Nägeli.
Status of name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Antithamnionella ternifolia (J.D.Hooker & Harvey) Lyle
Type information
Type locality: South of Black Beach Anchorage, I. Santa María, Galápagos Islands, Ecuador (Taylor 1945: 261, 262). Type: W.R. Taylor no. 34-394B p.p.; 30 January 1934; the major element among epiphytes on Prionitis which grew on surf-beaten rocks. Hancock Foundation (Taylor 1945: 261, 262).
