Type Species
The type species (holotype) of the genus Hormococcus is Hormococcus flaccidus (Kützing) Chodat.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Klebsormidium dissectum (F.Gay) H.Ettl & G.Gärtner.

Type Information
Neotype locality: near Col du Bussang, France; (Lokhorst 1996: 24) Neotype (prepared from cultures initiated from a soil sample): G.M. Lokhorst; 12 September 1992; soil sample from a forest track; L; (Lokhorst 1996: 24) Notes: Epitype: Strain SAG 2417 designated by Mikhailyuk et al. (2015: 763) to support the neotype specified above and proposed as the authentic strain of K. dissectum. Cryopreserved in liquid nitrogen in SAG. They note that strain SAG2155 isolated by Lokhorst from the neotype locality (original number KL 2) cannot be used as the epitype, because it does not correspond to emended description. They propose a strain SAG 2417, isolated by U. Karsten (originally labelled BOT2) from the concrete basement of a greenhouse in the Botanical Garden of Innsbruch (Austria) as the epitype of K. dissectumType locality: France: Hérault: Montpellier (INA).

Adjective (Latin), flaccid, not able to hold up its own weight (Stearn 1973).
