The type species (holotype) of the genus Cymbopleura is Cymbopleura inaequalis (Ehrenberg) Krammer.

This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Delicatophycus judaicus (Lange-Bertalot & Krammer) M.J.Wynne.

Adjective B (Latin), very delicate (Stearn 1973).
