Taxonomic note
Generally thought to be Chondrus crispus but the Cape Verde Islands are outside the range of this species. Plants from the Cape Verde Islands collected by Willem Prud'homme van Reine and sent to Michael Guiry in the 1980s are not Chondrus crispus sensu stricto. - (11 May 2006) - G.M. Guiry
