The type species (lectotype) of the genus Conferva is Conferva rupestris Linnaeus.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Vaucheria canalicularis (Linnaeus) T.A.Christensen.

Type Information
Lectotype: OXF; (Hoek 1963: 223) Notes: Material of Conferva rivulorum capillacea, densissime congestis ramulis Dillenius at OXF has been selected as the lectotype by van den Hoek (1963: 223). The author considered that it represented a sterile Vaucheria.
