Type species
The type species (holotype) of the genus Amphidiniopsis is Amphidiniopsis kofoidii Woloszynska.

Type locality: Ohama Beach, Kagawa Prefecture, Japan (Toriumi, Yoshimatsu & Dodge 2002: 117). Holotype: Fig. 14 (epitype) Sand-dwelling, marine. (Toriumi, Yoshimatsu & Dodge 2002: 117). Notes: Isotype: Figs 13, 19 and 20.

General environment
This is a marine species.

Description
Cells dorso-ventrally compressed, lacking photosynthetic pigments, 33-40 µm in length and 29-35 µm in width; thecal plate formula Po, 4', 3a, 7", 3c, 4s (+1 acc.), 5"', 2""; thecal plates thick providing small processes, small spines and pores; epitheca arch-shaped with a narrow ridge along the suture between 1', 4' and 7"; hypotheca cylindrical with rounded antapex; two antapical plates with unique pectinated ornamentation; nucleus situated centrally; eyespot lacking.

Habitat
Sand-dwelling, marine.
