Taxonomic note
Pavillardinium ovale (Pavillard) de Toni was considered to be the accepted name for this species. According to Hernández-Becerril (2010), all the species of the genus Centrodinium are in need of study, and the relationship with presumably related genera, such as Pavillardinium, needs to be examined. - (30 September 2010) - G.M. Guiry
