Type Species
The type species (holotype) of the genus Dictyota is Dictyota dichotoma (Hudson) J.V.Lamouroux.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Dictyota dichotoma (Hudson) J.V.Lamouroux.
Type Information
Type locality: Mediterranean Sea; (De Clerck 2003: 161) Lectotype: Kützing (1859: pl.20, fig. 1): (De Clerck 2003: 161) Notes: Kützing did not describe this variety but referred to his Species Algarum (1849: 555) which, however, contains no entry for D. aequalis var. minor. Nonetheless, the name is validated by the special provisions for non-vascular plants made by Art. 44.2. A type specimen could not be located in the Herb. Kützing or Herb. Sonder. Therefore, the illustration is chosen as a lectotype.
