Nomenclatural notes
Devalidated name (INA). Strunecky et al. (2013) cite P. vulgare Kützing ex Gomont but see note for Microcoleus vulgaris. - (13 February 2014) - G.M. Guiry
INA notes: "Gomont (1892) treated Phormidium vulgare as a synonym of P. autumnalis, so M. vulgaris cannot be based on a Gomont name. Microcoleus vulgaris must be lectotypified with a specimen not nomenclaturally entangled with P. autumnalis." - (22 April 2014) - M.D. Guiry
