The type species (holotype) of the genus Aglaothamnion is Aglaothamnion furcellariae (J.Agardh) Feldmann-Mazoyer.

This name is of an entity that is currently accepted taxonomically.
Holotype locality: Baie de Morlaix, France Holotype: Halos; PC M-Th. H. R638 (Maggs & Hommersand 1993: 97).

This species has been introduced into the Mediterranean (Verlaque et al. 2015: 115), probably by shipping, being first found at Livorno, Italy in 1975. - (4 Nov 2015) - M.D. Guiry
