Nomenclatural note
Invalid: pre-starting-point name. Name intorduced in Zanardini (1843: 63) with no description: "E comune in Dalmazia e cresce di preferenza sopra la Conferva prolifera." Silva et al. (1996: 40) note that Gomont did not purposely by-pass Meneghini's names (Leibleinia polychroa and L. violacea); rather, he intended to make a new combination of Calothrix sordida Zanardini (1843: 63), which he thought was an earlier available name. However, that name was published without a description and is thus invalid. - (15 September 2010) - G.M. Guiry
