Type Species
The type species (holotype) of the genus Navicula is Navicula tripunctata (O.F.Müller) Bory.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Dorofeyukea ancisa (Hustedt) Kulikovskiy & Kociolek.
Type Information
Type locality: Oase Gassa [Tunisia]; (Hustedt 1953: 395) Holotype: BRM; 246/99. Tunis. Oase Gassa. (Simonsen 1987: 395) Notes: Simonsen (1987: 395) notes "Hustedt failed to mark the specimen he illustrated. On the slide cited below we found two Navicula specimens of similar shape, one in a very oblique position which is marked, the other is in a better position but not marked. This latter specimen, however, measures 19-5 µm in length, whereas the former is 15 µm long, compared with Hustedt's specimen of about 14 µm."
