The type species (holotype) of the genus Turbinaria is Turbinaria turbinata (Linnaeus) Kuntze.
Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Turbinaria trialata var. capensis Kützing.

Adjective B (Latin), pertaining to the Cape, usually the Cape of Good Hope, South Africa.
