Description
Cells usually solitary with two yellowish brown, long, plate-like plastids. Valves linear, slightly sigmoid, 100-120 microns long and 5-6 microns wide. Raphe median, except at the apices, where it is slightly eccentric. Seen in EM, the cental raphe fissures overlap each other by c. 0.7 microns. Longituinal striae 44 in 10 microns and transverse striae 22-24 in 10 microns. Bands 0.9-1.1 microns wide with chevron-like markings. Cells inhabiting internodes of Coelarthrum opuntia (Rhodymeniales, Rhodophyceae).
