The type species (lectotype) of the genus Amphiroa is Amphiroa tribulus (J.Ellis & Solander) J.V.Lamouroux.

This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Pachyarthron cretaceum (Postels & Ruprecht) Manza.

Holotype locality: Kaifu, Honshu, Japan; (Woelkerling & al. 2008: 281) Holotype: SAP?/TI?; (Woelkerling & al. 2008: 281) Notes: Possibly in SAP or TI. A lectotype may need to be designated.
