Taxonomic note
"Comments: Considered a fossil species it has been frequently collected in aquatic systems in Southeastern part of the Iberian Peninsula. It is one of the predominant forms in Miocene deposits of diatomite located near río Segura basin. According to Krammer & Lange-Bertalot 1991 this is Fragilaria pinnata v. trigona (Brun & Héribaud) Hustedt in A. Schmidt et al. 1913 (Hustedt 1930)."
