Nomenclatural note
Illegitimate: not Chara batrachosperma Weiss (Weiss 1770: 33; Gregor et al. 2012). - (22 January 2014) - G.M. Guiry

Taxonomic note
Chara batrachosperma sensu Reichenbach (Reichenbach 1830, 36, pl. 794) has been treated as a separate name by some authors even though Reichenbach gave Thullier as the authority. The reason for this is that Reichenbach illustrate a species different to that described by Thullier, which is referable to the entity currently known as Nitella confervacea (Brébisson) A.Braun ex Leonhardi (Gregor, Raabe & Van Raam 2012) - (28 April 2020) - M.D. Guiry
