Lavigne et al. (2015: 321) point out that Rec. 60E recommends that "60E.1. The epithet in a name of a new taxon or replacement name should be written in conformity with the customary spelling of the word or words from which it is derived and in accordance with the accepted usage of Latin and latinization (see also Art. 23.5) ... 60E.Ex.1. sinensis (not chinensis)." However, Art. 60 clearly says "60.1. The original spelling of a name or epithet is to be retained, except for the correction of typographical or orthographical errors and the standardizations imposed by Art. 60.4 ...". Authors are surely free to choose to latinise "China" with chinensis or to use the suffix "-ensis" prefixed with the Latin for China, Sina. A number of flowring plant species retain the name "chinensis". - (10 February 2016) - M.D. Guiry
