Carmichael was responsible for the description in Hooker, not Harvey (Guiry, pers. comm.). Stegenga & Mol (1983: 97) cite this species as Isthmoplea sphaerophora (Carmicheal ex Harvey in Hooker) Kjellman. - (11 May 2006) - G.M. Guiry

Taxonomic note
Although Kjellman introduced Isthmoplea in 1877, p. 30, as a new name to accommodate Capsicarpella sphaerospora, the combination Isthmoplea sphaerospora was first made in 1879 (Athanasiadis, 1996). - (11 May 2006) - G.M. Guiry
