Type locality: "Mare mediterraneum? ad Littora Kamtschatica quoque legit Kraschenninikow" Collector: Kraschenninikow; (Gmelin 1768: 88) Notes: The type locality as reported by Gmelin “Locus Mare mediterraneum? ad Littora Kamtschatica quoque legit Kraschennikiow” is clearly inconsistent (Lipkin & Silva 2002: 47). Siberia: Kamchatka Peninsula (LT fide C. Agardh 1820) (Index Nominum Algarum).

Habitat note
Warm waters. On bottom covered with coral fragments, at 1-2 m depth; on rock flat, ca. 30cm below low water, in Caulerpa racemosa community; attached plants with epiphytic Jania; drifting plants intermingled in floating rafts composed mostly of Sargassum spp. and Turbinaria triquetra; attached plants obtained on rocky substrates in well-illuminated habitats at depths of 20-200 cm below low water level of spring tides (Lipkin & Silva 2002). - (15 June 2010) - G.M.
