Type locality: Kota Kinabalu, (05º59'N, 116º04'E), Sabah, Malaysia, South China Sea; (Leaw et al. 2010: 164) Holotype: fig. 1 (obtained from strain CmSA01): (Leaw et al. 2010: 164) Notes: Strain CmSA01 deposited in the Microalgae Culture Collection of Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia.

Nomenclatural notes
Hoppenrath et al. (2014) relegated this name tothe synonymy of Coolia monotis Meunier, but later studies of the Phylogenetic analysis of the D1-D2 LSU rDNA confirmed its species status (Leaw et al. 2016) - (02 August 2016) - M.D. Guiry
