This is the type species (holotype) of the genus Pseudendoclonium.
Status of name
This name is of an entity that is currently accepted taxonomically.
Type locality: "a floating wooden piece on coastal water in Drøbak (Norway)." (Darienko & Pröschold 2017: 10). Notes: Lectotype (designated in Darienko & Pröschold 2017): Fig. 107 in Wille (1901). Epitype (deignated in Darienko & Pröschold 2017): The authentic strain SAG 2237 is permanently cryopreserved in metabolically inactive state (cryopreserved in liquid nitrogen) in the SAG, University of Göttingen, Germany.
Origin of species name
Adjective (Latin), submarine (Stearn 1985).

Occurs on hard substratum in the upper littoral in the North Atlantic Ocean; associated with the fungus Cladosporium cladosporioides in samples from an estuary in Ipswich, MA where a balanced antagonism between the two organisms seems to have been established but a pathogenic interaction takes place in culture (Cooley et al. 2011). - (19 Oct 2011) - Wendy Guiry
