The type species (holotype) of the genus Surirella is Surirella striatula Turpin.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Iconella birostrata (Hustedt) E.Reichardt.

Invalid: name initially introduced without a description (A.Schmidt et al. pl. 282: fig. 16-23, 1912). After 1 January 1908, an illustration, even with with analysis (see Art. 38.9 and 38.10), is not acceptable in place of a written description or diagnosis. Validated by the provision of a description in Hustedt (1914: 66) according to simonsen (1987: 8) but we have not see ed. 3. - (18 February 2016) - M.D. Guiry
