The type species (lectotype) of the genus Erythrocladia is Erythrocladia irregularis Rosenvinge.

This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Porphyrostromium ciliare (Carmichael) M.J.Wynne.

Origin of Species Name
Adjective (Latin), grey, pearl-grey, pure grey tending a little to blue (Stearn 1983).
