Two taxa are currently (November 2021) passing under this name: Rhopalodia gibba (Ehrenberg) O.Müller described as Navicula gibba Ehrenberg 1832 from Russia and Pinnularia gibba sensu Ehrenberg 1843 which is the taxon in Krammer (2000) and Cantonati & al.
