The type species (lectotype) of the genus Acrochaetium is Acrochaetium secundatum (Lyngbye) Nägeli.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Acrochaetium barbadense (Vickers) Børgesen.

Taxonomic note
Garbary (1987: 129) lists this as a synonym of Audouinella occidentalis. John et al. (2004) note that this is possibly a synonym of Acrochaetium barbadense and that Stegenga (pers. comm.) has suggested that it may be referable to the genus Colaconema. - (11 May 2006) - G.M. Guiry
