The type species (holotype) of the genus Hymenena is Hymenena fissa Greville.

Taxonomic note
Gabrielson, Widdowson & Lindstrom (2004: 107, footnote) consider that Hymenena flabelligera and H. kylinii are indistinguishable, as do Abbott & Hollenberg (1976: 662), and the name was placed in synonymy by Gabrielson, Lindstrom & Widdowson (2006). - (16 August 2006) - G.M. Guiry
