Type Species
The type species (lectotype) of the genus Conferva is Conferva rupestris Linnaeus.

Status of Name
This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Fragilaria pectinalis (O.F.Müller) Lyngbye.

Type locality: "In palustribus Hauniensibus" [Denmark: near Copenhagen]; (Müller 1788: 91) Lectotype: fig. 4 in O.F. Müller 1788: 91: an individual from slide BM 101152 in BM (located at England finder L33-3: fig. 4B), "New river near Hornsey, March 5, 1802" (epitype) (Tuji & Williams 2006: 198) Notes: Isoepitype: TNS.
