This name is currently regarded as a synonym of Ulvella parasitica (Oltmanns) R.Nielsen, C.J.O'Kelly & B.Wysor
Type locality: Greenland: near Egedesminde; Germany: near Warnemünde on Fucus (Index Nominum Algarum). Lectotype: original illustration by Oltmanns (1894, fig.6): C: CAT 2451 (dried material of strain RN060972) (epitype) (Nielsen et al. 2013: 52).
